about

Sweet acoustic ballad recounting the true story of Miss Marion Elder as she journeyed as a war bride at the end of World War II to become new mother in America. Leaving her home in Fremantle, Australia behind forever, she settled with her husband Fred Hoffman in Albuquerque, New Mexico under the Sandia Mountains where the raised a large and happy family.

lyrics

Miss Marion
Joshua Polaris, 2021

Where you to, Miss Marion?
Who's this Fred? From where's he come?
Soldier of America
War bride of miss Marion
Hums x2 (harmony on g x1)

Fancy Nancy hold my hand
Tell me tales of Aussie land
From its center grows a tree
Drops its fruit not far from me
Across the world this fruit has rolled
Aussie came New Mexico
Sheltered by the Sandias
A family grew from Marion

Fell from Australian tree though he was grown in America
From Miss Marion this is where he's from born America

Love is like a boomerang
Returns us where from once she came
Southern cross her kind must see
Cause Aussie roots make Aussie trees
Harbor Master mark your log
Returns your kin by Marion
We bear her ash across the sea
Where you and Leonore still sleep

Sewn in America but how she dreamed of Australia
Mother Marion,This is where she's from, Free old (Freo) Australia

Find the trees from which you've roamed,
By your roots your Elder Grown
Feel them in your bones
This is how we know
We're all Elder Grown

One for sorrow, two for joy
on zig zag ship that bride deployed
So, as they say in Australia
Ta Ta for now miss Marion
